Ranfurly Primary School was established in 1993 and is located in a growing residential area of Mildura. The school celebrated its 25-year milestone in 2018 and currently has a stable enrolment of approximately 400 students. As a government school within the Department of Education and Training (DET), Ranfurly is part of the Mallee Network in the North West Region.
Our school community is rich in cultural diversity, which adds strength and vibrancy to our learning environment. At Ranfurly, we deliver high-quality teaching and learning programs aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, with a strong focus on improving Literacy and Numeracy outcomes, as well as student wellbeing and positive behaviour.
Class sizes are kept to a range of approximately 20–25 students to support strong relationships and individualised learning. Specialist programs are offered in Visual Arts, Music and Performing Arts, Physical Education, and DigiSTEM. We also provide a range of extra-curricular opportunities that allow students to participate in sport, music, cultural activities and leadership experiences. In addition, our SPARK Learn program gives students practical, real-world learning experiences such as gardening, cooking, and creative arts.
Our dedicated and experienced staff work collaboratively to design engaging, innovative learning programs that support every student to succeed. Teachers are committed to creating classrooms where students feel challenged, supported, and motivated to achieve their personal best.
At Ranfurly, we teach reading using a structured, phonics-based approach that is grounded in evidence-based practice. This means students are explicitly taught how letters and sounds work together to help them read and spell words accurately.
Our teaching is also aligned with the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 (VTLM 2.0), which provides a clear, research-informed framework for effective teaching. In simple terms, this means we use proven teaching strategies that focus on clear learning goals, explicit instruction, checking for understanding, and supporting every student to make strong progress in their learning.
At Ranfurly, we embrace a visible learning approach, explicitly teaching students what they are learning, why they are learning it, and what successful learning looks like. Through this, students are supported to become assessment-capable learners who can reflect on their progress, set goals, and take ownership of their learning.
Student voice is an important part of learning at Ranfurly. We explicitly teach students how to reflect on their learning and develop metacognitive skills, helping them understand how they learn best. A range of thinking tools and strategies are used across the school to support this. The Resilience Project underpins our wellbeing program, with a strong focus on gratitude, empathy and mindfulness. We also offer leadership opportunities that prepare senior students for important roles within the school community.
Ranfurly Primary School also delivers a Chinese (Mandarin) language program, providing students with the opportunity to learn another language and develop an understanding of different cultures and global citizenship.
Our facilities include 22 permanent classrooms designed to support flexible learning, along with additional relocatable spaces. The school features a modern library that serves as a central learning hub, as well as an arts facility, gymnasium, and a daily-operating canteen.
Our grounds span approximately 3.5 hectares and are fully landscaped, featuring an oval, cricket pitch, basketball/netball courts, and multiple play areas. The school is also bordered by Walnut Park, a two-hectare community parkland managed by Mildura Rural City Council, providing additional outdoor learning and recreation space.
Classrooms at Ranfurly Primary School provide safe, supportive, and digitally rich learning environments. Students have access to interactive screens and a range of digital technologies to support their learning. Students from Prep to Year 2 are provided with 1:1 iPads supplied by the school, while students in Years 3 to 6 are provided with 1:1 netbooks. This ensures all students have equitable access to digital tools that support learning, collaboration, and skill development across all year levels.
Our School Council and Parents’ Club play an active role in supporting school programs and strengthening community connections. We value strong partnerships with families and encourage involvement in school life.
Our school motto. Respect for others, Pride in ourselves, and Safety for all underpins everything we do. It reflects our commitment to building a positive, caring and inclusive environment where every student can thrive. Student wellbeing remains a key priority, ensuring all children are supported academically, socially, and emotionally throughout their time at Ranfurly.
